In 1994, Gretzky scored to become the first 2,400 point scorer in NHL history, then added another goal plus two assists to lead the Kings to a 6-4 win over the Hartford Whalers in Los Angeles. His second goal made him the 7th player to record 200 goals as a member of the Kings.

In 1999, Gretzky played in his final NHL All-Star Game in Tampa, Florida. He scored 1 goal and 2 assists and was named the game's Most Valuable Player in the final All-Star Game of his career. It was the third All-Star Game MVP Award of his career.
