In 1979, Edmonton's Wayne Gretzky played against Hartford's Gordie Howe for the second of four times in their NHL careers, when the Oilers beat the Whalers 3-0 at Edmonton. Gretzky scored a goal in the game, to trail Howe in career goals 797-11.
