In 1989, Wayne Gretzky scored a hat trick to lead the Kings to a 6-2 win against Blackhawks at Chicago. It was Gretzky's 45th career hat trick, most by any player in NHL history.

Gretzky's hat trick also allowed him to set a record with his 10th season of 40 goals or more.
