In 1978, 17-year-old Wayne Gretzky signed a personal services contract with Nelson Skalbania, owner of the WHA's Indianapolis Racers. It was for a $250,000 bonus, $100,000 first season, $150,000 for the next two seasons, and $175,000 in the fourth year.
